About Us

Hola! I'm Cynthia, the face behind the brand. I grew up in Peru surrounded by the most gorgeous handmade textiles. I am a mountain guide, dog lover, coffee addict, and world traveler. A nomad at heart, since an early age I've lived in many different places which allowed me to learn about other cultures and get more connected with my roots. After spending many years as a mountain guide in Peru and Patagonia, I now live in Canada where I spend as much time as possible exploring the mountains with my husband, Evan, and my two dogs, Nuna and Sami.

I missed the color and culture of Peru when I moved to Canada. Always having an entrepreneurial spirit, I wanted to create a company that could empower small communities by helping them earn a sustainable living using traditional skills, and to highlight Peru’s vibrant culture to the world. Now in Canada, I saw an opportunity to bring the high-quality and colourful items I grew up seeing to the rest of us. I now import and sell the most divine creations from my home country.

At Peruvian Nuna, we believe in giving back. We contribute to “One Tree Planted”, an organization that restores forests, creates jobs, builds communities, and protects habitats for biodiversity. Every product purchased will contribute so one tree is planted. I'm very passionate about building the company into a position where I am able to go back to Peru each year and give back to the communities that supply our products. By working with the community leaders I want to be able to help them with their unique problems, be it by building classrooms for students, securing safe drinking water, or creating off-grid electricity, for example.

The word ‘Nuna’ is derived from Quechua, the native language of the Incan civilization, and translates to soul, spirit, or awareness. To us, Nuna relates to the spirits living in Peru’s sacred mountains who watch over the land, along with Pachamama (Mother Earth), and the souls of Peruvian people who sustain their families from it.

As nature lovers and passionate hikers, our logo was inspired by one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, Mt. Alpamayo, standing at 5,947 meters in the heart of Peru’s “Cordillera Blanca”.

Our Products

Contrary to today’s fast fashion, our products are designed and made to last, to be kept and loved. All of our products are created with sustainability in mind and are sourced from family-based artisan projects, resisting mass-scale factory production. Peruvian artisans have carefully crafted each one of our products. Some of them are made with ancient traditional techniques and some are mixed with modern techniques. They're made with the finest fibers, by the most skillful artisans. We started a few years ago working with artisans from three different areas of Peru, today we are working with artisans from nine different areas, and we are always looking for more opportunities to give jobs to other communities. We are constantly working to bring you happy, colorful, and quality collections that will stay part of your wardrobe or home decor for many years.

  • Many of our products are made by hand; they can be slightly different from one to the other. We hope that you appreciate this uniqueness, and love them as much as we do. They all took many hours of dedication to create before they could arrive at your home.

 Eco-Friendly Packaging

We care about the environment and especially our oceans. We try to avoid using plastics and creating as little waste as possible. In our journey of learning how to get as eco-friendly as possible we have come up with this packaging solution:

  • 100% Compostable mailers made from cornstarch and cassava root!
  • Tissue paper completely acid-free and FSC certified, with soy ink as opposed to traditional petroleum-based ink.
  • Paper tape that is eco-friendly and recyclable.
  • Corrugated packaging made with high-recycled contents. They are reusable and help to save energy since they’re not made out of virgin materials.
